Short version. The CONVERTIKON app collects nothing. The direct-download version connects to the internet once, to check your licence key, and never again; the Mac App Store version has no licence key and never connects at all. This website uses no cookies and counts visits without identifying anyone. If you join the mailing list, we keep your email address to send you launch news and product updates, and nothing else. If you buy the app, the payment is handled by Gumroad, our merchant of record, or by Apple in the Mac App Store; from Gumroad we receive only what we need to deliver it and help you, from Apple no payment details at all.
Who we are
CONVERTIKON is made by Elizabeth Enko, an individual based in Canada. For anything to do with your information, write to support@convertikon.app. Elizabeth is the person accountable for this policy.
The app
CONVERTIKON runs entirely on your computer.
- It collects no personal information. No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reports, no telemetry.
- It connects to the internet once: when you enter your licence key, it asks the shop whether the key is valid. It sends the key and the product's ID, nothing else, and it doesn't read anything from your computer to do so. After that it never connects again: no update checks, no phoning home. It works the same with the internet switched off.
- The Mac App Store version has no licence key and makes no network connections at all, ever. It collects no data, which is what its App Store listing says under App Privacy: Data Not Collected.
- The only thing it stores is one small settings file on your computer, so it can open the way you left it: the window width, your FRACTIONAL / DECIMAL choice, whether the window is pinned on top, whether the Dock or taskbar icon is shown, whether you asked it not to offer to move to the Applications folder again, and, in the direct-download version, your licence key once it's accepted. Nothing you type is saved. The file is
convertikon-settings.json, in your user application-data folder; deleting the app and that file removes every trace.
This website
- convertikon.app is a static site with no cookies and no tracking.
- It counts visits with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly counter. For each page view it records the page, the site you came from, your browser and system, your screen width, your language and your country. Your country is worked out from your IP address, and the address itself is not stored. Nothing is saved in your browser, and nothing can be linked back to you. See GoatCounter's privacy notes.
- The free web version of CONVERTIKON on convertikon.app runs entirely in your browser. What you type never leaves your computer. It remembers only your FRACTIONAL / DECIMAL choice, in your browser's own storage, so the page opens the way you left it.
- It is hosted by GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub may log the IP address of visitors to keep the service running. GitHub's own privacy statement covers that.
The mailing list (email sign-up)
- If you type your email address into the sign-up box and press Enter, that address is sent to a Google Form and stored in a Google Sheet in Elizabeth's Google account. Google processes it under Google's privacy policy; Google's servers may be outside Canada.
- We store the address and the time you signed up. Nothing else is collected with it.
- We use it for one purpose: to tell you when CONVERTIKON launches and about updates to it. We don't sell, rent or share the list.
- Every email we send tells you who it's from and how to stop receiving them. To be removed at any time, reply to any of our emails or write to support@convertikon.app; we delete the address within 10 business days.
- We keep your address for as long as you stay on the list, and delete it when you ask to be removed.
Buying the app
- Purchases are processed by Gumroad (Gumroad, Inc.), which acts as the merchant of record. That means the provider is the seller on your receipt: it takes your payment, collects any sales tax or VAT that applies where you live, issues the receipt and handles refunds.
- The provider collects what a purchase needs: your name, email address, billing country and payment details. We never see your card number. Its privacy policy and buyer terms apply to that part.
- We receive your name, email address, country and order details, so we can deliver the download, answer support questions and keep the records the law requires. We keep order records for 7 years, the period Canadian tax law requires.
- Mac App Store: the Mac version is bought from Apple, under Apple's terms and Apple's privacy policy. Apple takes the payment, issues the receipt and handles refunds. We receive no payment details from an App Store purchase, and Apple doesn't pass us your name or email either.
Your rights
You can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to support@convertikon.app and we'll answer within 30 days. If you're in Canada and aren't satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you're in the EU or UK, you have the same rights under the GDPR, plus the right to complain to your local data-protection authority; our lawful basis for the launch list is your consent, and for purchases it is the contract with you.
Children
CONVERTIKON is a tool for professionals and isn't aimed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes up on this page with a new date at the top. If a change matters to people on the mailing list, we'll say so in an email.
