CONVERTIKON

Support

Stuck, or found something odd? Write to support@convertikon.app. A real person answers, usually within two business days. Say whether you're on Mac or Windows, and a screenshot helps.

Installing on a Mac

  1. Open the downloaded convertikon-2.2.0-mac.dmg. A window opens with an arrow.
  2. Drag CONVERTIKON onto the Applications folder.
  3. Eject the disk (the ⏏ next to CONVERTIKON in the Finder sidebar).
  4. Open CONVERTIKON from Applications. The first time, macOS may say the app was downloaded from the internet. Click Open. The app is signed and notarised by Apple, so there's no other warning.

If you open the app straight from the disk window instead, it offers to move itself to Applications. Click Move to Applications Folder. Running it from the disk is what stops the disk from ejecting.

CONVERTIKON runs on Macs with Apple Silicon and Intel, macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.

Installing on Windows

There are two files. Either works; you don't need both.

"Windows protected your PC"

On first run, Windows may show a blue box saying Windows protected your PC, from a feature called SmartScreen. It appears for any new app that hasn't yet built up a download history with Microsoft, and it is not saying the file is harmful. To continue: click More info, then Run anyway. You only have to do this once.

Two ways to be sure you have the real file: download it only from convertikon.app or the link in your receipt, and check that Elizabeth Enko is listed as the publisher in the file's Properties → Details.

CONVERTIKON runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit).

It starts with Windows

CONVERTIKON starts when Windows starts and waits by the clock as a small icon, without opening its window. To turn that off, right-click the icon and untick Start with Windows. If you use the portable file and move it to another folder, open it once from there so Windows knows where it is.

Typing feet and inches

Type into any field and the other four follow. In the FT field you can write feet and inches almost any way you'd say them:

You typeIt means
66 feet
6-36 feet 3 inches
6'36 feet 3 inches
6 36 feet 3 inches (a space works when whole inches follow)
6'-3 1/2"6 feet 3½ inches, the way it's written on drawings
6'3.56 feet 3½ inches
164 0 1/2164 feet ½ inch

In the IN field, type inches with a fraction (75 1/2, or 75-1/2 as suppliers write it) or a decimal (75.5). Fractions are shown to the nearest 1/16".

FRACTIONAL shows feet-and-inches with fractions (6'-3 1/2"); DECIMAL keeps feet-and-inches but writes the inches as a decimal (6'-3.5", 75.5), and there you can also type decimal feet such as 6.25. Click the grey word at the bottom right to switch; the app remembers your choice.

A comma works as a decimal point (1,5), for keyboards whose number pad types one.
